Where to Stay for Your Acadia Elopement

Your elopement day deserves more than just a beautiful ceremony. It’s about the full experience from staying at a cozy, relaxing space to ending the evening somewhere that keeps the warmth of the day.

Bar Harbor and the nearby areas have something for every couple, style, and budget. Maybe you want a waterfront suite with a spa, a cozy Victorian bed and breakfast with a homemade breakfast, or a private Airbnb in the Maine countryside with your closest people. It’s all here. This guide will help you find the perfect place to stay.

Staying in Bar Harbor for Your Acadia Elopement Experience

Most eloping couples choose to stay in Bar Harbor for their Acadia elopement. It’s walkable, lively, and full of great food and beautiful scenery. This is important if you want to enjoy a nice dinner to celebrate your elopement, take a stroll with no set plans, or simply stay longer and enjoy a mini-moon.

The Luxury Stays

  1. The Bar Harbor Inn is one of the most well-known hotels in Bar Harbor. It’s right on Shore Path, overlooking the water, with both casual and fine dining restaurants on site and a pool that’s perfect for summer. Since they host weddings often, their service is seamless. They know how to take care of couples and their families, and it shows. Everything downtown is within walking distance, so you don’t have to worry about logistics.

  2. The Harborside Hotel, Spa & Marina is also right on the water, with a beautiful lawn and pool. If you want a spa experience as part of your elopement trip, this is a great choice. Many rooms have hot tubs, and the atmosphere is calm and indulgent. La Bella Vita, an Italian restaurant, is attached to the hotel. Like the Bar Harbor Inn, they host weddings and offer attentive service to every guest. It’s also fully walkable to everything downtown.

  3. The Balance Rock Inn is tucked along Shore Path, right on the water, a bit more quietly removed from downtown, but still walkable to everything. It has a distinctly romantic, luxurious feel, and their restaurant, the Veranda, offers fine dining and is a great choice for a special dinner.

  4. The Blue Nose Inn is just a few minutes’ drive from downtown, making it a nice option if you want to be a little farther from the summer crowds. The rooms are beautiful, some with great water views, and the property has both indoor and outdoor pools plus a sauna. There isn’t a restaurant inside the hotel, but The Looking Glass, on the property, offers stunning water views and a great dining experience. A sidewalk leads directly to downtown, so it’s still easy to walk there.

  5. The West Street Hotel is right in the heart of downtown, walkable to everywhere, and its rooftop pool overlooking the water is genuinely worth it. Paddy's is attached to the hotel for dining. This is a great choice if you want to be central, social, and enjoy a stunning rooftop view during your stay.

  6. The Bar Harbor Regency is right on the water with a lovely area for walking along the shoreline. It has a pool, a tiki bar perfect for a summer elopement, tennis courts, and two on-site restaurants: La Bella Vita and Stewman’s Lobster Pound. It has a higher-end feel throughout and is a wonderful choice if you want amenities and waterfront access all in one place.

  7. The Pathmaker Hotel is a brand-new hotel in downtown Bar Harbor. It is walkable everywhere, and the restaurant offers free breakfast for guests every morning. They are also open to the public for lunch and dinner, serving casual and more refined dishes.

  8. The Ivy Manor Inn is right in downtown Bar Harbor and walkable everywhere. The major perk is the lawn, which has fire pits and an outside bar with live music!

The Bed & Breakfasts

  1. The Primrose Inn is walkable to everything in Bar Harbor and serves a fresh, cooked-to-order breakfast each morning, plus afternoon tea, which is a lovely extra.

  2. Thornhedge Inn & Stratford is another great option with a Victorian style, also walkable, and includes a home-cooked breakfast.

  3. The Inn on Mount Desert is a larger property and a bit less intimate than the first two, but it’s still cozy and comfortable. They offer a made-to-order breakfast every morning, and it’s an easy walk to downtown.

  4. The Salt Air Inn is really cozy, with only 8 rooms, right on the water, and in a Victorian style. It has a spa, daily hot and cold breakfast, a restaurant and dining room, plus a bar and lounge.

  5. Little Fig Hotel is more casual. There’s no formal breakfast, but they offer a great grab-and-go selection every morning, with drinks, snacks, and coffee available all day, plus fresh-baked goods set out daily. It’s walkable to everything in Bar Harbor and is a relaxed, lovely option.

Beyond Bar Harbor

The Claremont Hotel in Southwest Harbor is about 45 minutes from the heart of Acadia, which, depending on where you're eloping, might be closer than you'd think. It’s a beautiful property with oceanfront views, water access, a dock, a stunning pool with cabanas, and several on-site dining options, with Fish Camp being the most popular. If you want to feel truly away from the busier parts of the island but still have everything you need, this is a great choice.

The Asticou Hotel in Northeast Harbor is about a 25-minute drive from Acadia and features a beautiful pool with poolside dining, ocean views, and on-site dining options. It is great to be outside downtown Bar Harbor, but it is still a quick drive! The Asticou Azalea Gardens are nearby, offering a lovely spot for a quiet morning walk or some photos if you love flowers and greenery.

Airbnbs for Your Acadia Elopement

If you’re bringing family or a small group of guests, renting an Airbnb might be the best option. Trenton, Tremont, and Lamoine are just outside Bar Harbor and offer a great range of private properties, many of which can fit large groups under one roof. There’s something special about gathering everyone in a space that feels like a shared home, especially when your elopement is an intimate celebration.

There are also plenty of Airbnbs right in downtown Bar Harbor if you want some privacy without losing walkability. Ellsworth is a bit farther out, about 45 minutes from Bar Harbor, but it has many Airbnb options if you’re looking for something more budget-friendly or want to be away from the tourist areas.

There’s Something for Every Budget

Not every elopement needs the most expensive room, and it never has to. Downtown Bar Harbor offers many comfortable, accessible options, including the Seaside Motel, Anchorage Motel, Cromwell Harbor Motel, Bar Harbor Manor, Main Street Motel, Villager Motel, and Bar Harbor Grand Hotel. Most are walkable to downtown. The experience you have on your elopement day isn’t about how much you spend on a room. It’s shaped by your presence, intention, and the people you’re with.

How to Choose The Right Accommodation for Your Acadia Elopement

Here are a few questions worth answering as you decide:

  • Do you want to walk to dinner and explore downtown, or do you prefer a quieter, more tucked-away retreat?

  • Are you traveling with guests who need to be nearby, or is this just the two of you?

  • Is the morning-of experience part of what you're envisioning, like getting a spa treatment, a slow breakfast, or a rooftop view?

  • What season are you eloping in? A waterfront patio or rooftop pool feels different in July than it does in October (though both are beautiful in their own way).

  • Do you want everything handled for you, or do you love the idea of a cozy, home-like space with a little more independence?

There are no wrong answers here. It is totally up to you how you envision your Acadia elopement experience, and your accommodation choice can definitely enhance the celebration. Plus, depending on the weather, your lodging can also serve as a Plan B location for your ceremony.
