Elegant Elopement in Acadia During Golden Hour | Carley & Alex

Carley and Alex's elegant elopement in Acadia National Park was built around one simple idea… Their day should feel like them!

They chose a morning elopement to enjoy the soft light without having to wake up before dawn. They love being outdoors but didn’t want to spend the day hiking. Having their two dogs with them was important. Most of all, they wanted the morning to feel easy, not rushed by a strict schedule.

We planned their day around three places that matched what they wanted: Hunter’s Beach for its peaceful forest path, Monument Cove for their elopement ceremony on the granite coast, and Otter Cliff Overlook for sweeping ocean views. Here’s how their Acadia elopement went:

How Their Elegant Elopement in Acadia Came Together

When Carley and Alex first reached out, they already had an idea of how they wanted their elopement to look.

Through emails and phone calls in the weeks before their elopement, I got to know them—not just what they wanted for the day, but who they are as people. That’s what matters most to me, because it helps me make suggestions that truly fit, not just work on paper.

Carley wanted a morning elopement, but not a climb before sunrise, just the soft light of early day. That sense of calm was important to her, while Alex liked the idea of being in a forest. They both enjoy hiking, however, they didn’t want to hike on their elopement day. And their two dogs were definitely coming along.

Since Carley wanted morning light without having to wake up too early, I suggested starting about an hour after sunrise. The light would still be golden and soft, but they’d have more time to wake up and relax. Because Alex wanted to include a forest, I added Hunter’s Beach as a portrait spot, where a path winds through tall pines, and the light falls beautifully. For their ceremony, they had already seen Monument Cove in my portfolio and knew they wanted to get married there.

Monument Cove is also very dog-friendly. It’s flat enough for two dogs to relax during the ceremony and safe enough that no one has to worry. That detail alone made the choice simple.

Their Acadia Elopement, Location by Location

We started at Hunter’s Beach, walking along the forest path in the morning light before the day got busy. The wooden boardwalk, tall pines on both sides, and the quiet all suited Alex’s vibe.

Then, Monument Cove for the ceremony. Pink granite sloping to the sea, the water bright blue in the sunlight, the small group of people they love standing witness as the couple exchanged their vows.

Afterward, we went to Otter Cliff Overlook, a dramatic stretch of coastline where the rocks drop down to the open ocean. By then, the light had changed, becoming warmer and more golden. The photos from that spot still move me when I look at them.

We spent about 15 to 20 minutes at each place. It wasn’t because we were in a hurry, but because that was just the right amount of time. It was enough to settle in, find the moments, let things happen naturally, and move on before the mood changed. Carley and Alex never felt posed or rushed. They just felt like themselves, in a beautiful place, on a day that was truly theirs.

The Elevated Elopement Experience

Somewhere between locations, Carley realized she'd forgotten her water. I had an extra bottle in my car, and I handed it over without a second thought. It's such a small thing. But I've thought about it since, because I think it captures something true about what a good elopement experience actually is.

Luxury isn’t always about big gestures. Sometimes it’s just the feeling of being cared for. It’s arriving and finding that the details are already handled. It’s not having to worry about the schedule or what comes next, because someone else has already taken care of it.

That's what I want every couple to feel. Not just in the big moments, but in the in-between ones too.

By the time we finished, Carley and Alex were exactly where I hoped couples land at the end of their elopement: excited for the photos that were coming, and completely at peace with the morning that had just passed. They weren’t wishing the day had been longer or wondering if they missed anything. They just felt content, the way you do when a day is planned completely around who you are.

That's the goal. Every time.
