Acadia National Park Elopement Timeline Examples: What Can You Really Do in Three Hours?
When most people start planning an elopement, they assume it needs to fill a full day to feel meaningful. Sunrise alarm, eight hours of photos, sunset finale. Or they go to the opposite extreme of a quick courthouse ceremony with only a few portraits afterward.
And while both are perfectly valid ways to elope, your options aren’t limited to those two experiences. There’s an option that sits in between, and it’s one I’ve built my entire approach around.
A three-hour elopement timeline gives you time to exchange vows, celebrate with a few loved ones, explore more than one part of Acadia, and create a gallery filled with both natural moments and artfully composed portraits. It gives your experience room to breathe without making you feel like you need to keep adding activities simply to fill a timeline.
Here's what that can look like in practice.
Why a 3-Hour Elopement Timeline Works So Well in Acadia
Acadia is uniquely suited to shorter elopements, and it comes down to one thing: proximity. The park is compact, diverse, and wildly beautiful. A rocky ocean overlook, a sandy beach, a quiet forest trail, and a mountain summit can all exist within a few miles of each other. That means less time driving around and more time actually experiencing your day.
Most of the locations I recommend involve easy walks of 10 to 20 minutes at most, with incredible views without requiring hours of hiking. And because I know this park so well, from the light at each hour, the tides, the crowds, the hidden spots, I can design a timeline that makes three hours feel full and rich, not rushed.

Three hours gives you space to breathe, move at your own pace, and still experience multiple locations without feeling obligated to fill a whole day. You can have a first look, a ceremony, portraits in two or three locations, a celebratory moment, and still leave with a gallery that tells a beautiful story.

How I Build Your Elopement Timeline
Creating an elopement timeline isn’t simply a matter of choosing several beautiful locations and fitting them into a three-hour window. I start by getting to know you. The more I understand your personalities, priorities, comfort levels, and vision for the day, the more thoughtfully I can shape the experience around you, often without you needing to know exactly what to ask for.
You may tell me that you want beautiful coastal views, but through our conversations, I might also learn that you value privacy, dislike feeling rushed, and would rather spend longer in one meaningful place than move quickly through several locations. While another couple may love variety, feel comfortable exploring, and want their gallery to include as many of Acadia’s landscapes as possible. Neither approach is better. They simply require slightly different approaches to their timeline.
Another thing I consider is the timing of your ceremony. Ceremony locations are always chosen with the light in mind. Where the sun will be in the sky at the time of your vows matters — both for the quality of the light and to make sure you're not squinting into it during the most important moment of your day. Portrait locations are more flexible, but the ceremony spot is something I think about carefully for every couple.

This sample elopement timeline is based on the fact that Schooner Head gets the best light in the mornings. It is also a bit shorter at 2,5 hrs!
8:00am - 8:30am: Schooner Head Portraits
8:30am - 8:35am: Drive to Sand Beach
8:35am - 9:10am: Sand Beach Portraits (we always leave extra time here, because the parking can require a short walk in).
9:10am - 9:15:am: Drive to Monument Cove
9:15am - 9:20am: Prep for ceremony

These timelines are just examples of what your day could look like. Every Acadia National Park elopement timeline I create is built from scratch and would look different depending on the season, sunset time, traffic, crowds, road conditions, guest count, accessibility needs, and the kind of experience you want.
Even two couples visiting the same locations may receive completely different timelines. One may want to prioritize family photographs and privacy for their vows. Another may prefer a short hike and a champagne toast. Someone else may want no formal ceremony at all, just portraits, and a slow evening together beside the ocean.
